the clearing and decrease of forests or trees.
Deforestation drives climate change. Forest soils are moist, but without protection from sun-blocking tree coverage the soil quickly dry out. Trees also help perpetuate the water cycle by returning water vapor back into the atmosphere. Without trees to fill these roles, many former forest land can quickly become barren deserts.
When looking through all of my images of the act of deforestation. I came across block prints by Bryan Nash Gil. I loved the images with the repetition, with all the images they had a sense of beauty with their shape, color, and repetition. But at the same time I had the feeling of melancholy. I hate the fact that this destructive act can create such beautiful imagery. This was one of the driving forces in the beginning of my design process. That I can design beautiful clothing that communicate this idea of change and loss.
